Emblica contains tannins. Do we have to be concerned about
coloration? How can it be avoided?
- At the use level of 0.5% or below, you don‘t need to be concerned
about coloration. Long heating at 40°C or above may give you some light
brown coloration. At higher levels (>0.5%), especially around 1-2%
level, the formulation will be light brown in color. At this level,
one should target for a pastel colored product. Protect formulation
from UV-light and oxygen using suitable packaging
What proof do you have for iron chelating property of Emblica?
- We have an in-vitro test "azide-induced UV-Spectral analysis" that
proves the complexation of Emblica with iron. We have recently done
molecular modeling of Emblica constituents (preliminary). It shows
that Emblicanin A is the primary chelating agent and the others act
as secondary chelating agents. They both are needed to occupy all the
coordination sites of iron.
If iron is naturally occuring in the skin, why do we have
to fight against it?
- Iron and copper play ambivalent roles in biology because they are
required as cofactors for many biological reactions and at the same
time their toxicity threatens cellular integrity. When iron or copper
is bound with protein, it is fine. It is the free iron or copper that
are detrimental to skin. They act as catalysts to produce reactive
oxygen species.
What happens with the bound-Iron in the skin? Is it dangerous?
- It is not dangerous because in this form iron can not act as a catalyst
to produce reactive oxygen species.
What benefit do we have with Emblica™ over Vitamin
C and/or E, Emblica™ being more expensive?
- Emblica is not simply "another natural antioxidant."
It has chelating and enzyme inhibiting multifunctional properties.
It is the only commercially available antioxidant
known to us which does not have pro-oxidation effect. Its price
should be compared with premier antioxidants such as pine-bark antioxidants,
grape antioxidants or rosemary antioxidants. When you compare with these
antioxidants, Emblica is less expensive.
- Emblica is also a very stable antioxidant vs Vitamin C or Vitamin
E. Antioxidant activity of Emblica is intact at 45°C for 12 months.
Cascading effect of Emblica, enables it to retain activity for over
12 months.
- Emblica has a very high concentration of active substances compared
to other natural antioxidants, even more support for better economy.
What are the differences between Emblica™ and other
Amla fruit extracts offered on the market?
- Batch to batch variation of active ingredients, color in Emblica
is low vs Amla extract (which is very high). Most of the Amla extract
suppliers do not know what are the active ingredients in the product.
Our product is standardized by using highly sophisticated HPLC and
HPTLC.
- Emblica is patented for cosmetic application.
- Emblica’s attributes are defined based on many efficacy studies.
- High quality product having > 50% active ingredients.
- Excellent toxicity profile.
- Registration issues clarified.
Vitamin C has a synergistic effect on Vitamin E as it "reactivates" Vitamin
E. Do we need the cascading effect of Emblica?
- Stability data shows both Vitamin C and E are losing activity in
an aqueous system whereas Emblica is stable for > 12 months in the
formulation. Long-lasting stability of Emblica is probably due to its
cascading effect.
How can you justify the relatively high price for this Antioxidant?
- Emblica is the only commercially available antioxidant
known to us which does not have pro-oxidation effect. It’s price
should be compared with premier antioxidant like, pine-bark antioxidant,
grape antioxidant or rosemary antioxidant. When you compare with these
antioxidants, Emblica is less expensive.
Can I use Emblica to protect formulation ingredients like
Oxynex? Do I need additional antioxidants?
- No, you don’t need to use any additonal antioxidant. Emblica
will protect the formulation ingredients as well as your skin. Emblica
may require an additional complexing agent, such as EDTA to provide
synergistic complexing ability.
Why does EDTA have to be added to the formulation containing Emblica?
- A complexing agent like EDTA helps Emblica to be distributed evenly
in the formulation.
What about the patent situation?
- Our evaluation shows that no third party patent infringement is
expected, except for sunscreen formulation in New Zealand might be
blocked for Emblica.
- Favorable own patent situation for Emblica in cosmetic applications.
- What claims can I put on my package?
Proposals:
- Natural Antioxidant
- Skin protection against free radicals
- Cell protection against harmful damage through UV-radiation
- Ayurvedic natural care & protection
Can I use the trademark Emblica™ on the package?
- Yes, end-users can use the Emblica trade name. Customers need to be
advised of our designated countries and the restrictions of registration,
which is applicable only for Class 1.
- Any further use of the trade name is up to the customer to decide
and it is their responsibilty to abide by the local country laws.
Why Emblica™ is not synthetically produced?
- Emblica’s activity is not specific to a single ingredient.
For an optimal antioxidant activity, you need all the ingredients in
Emblica. Therefore, synthetic Emblica will not be as effective as a natural
antioxidant. It will also be very expensive to synthesize Emblica ingredient(s)
due to their structural complexity.
Does Emblica™ have skin whitening properties?
- Yes, it does. We have just completed a clinical study. We will initially
go with the key customers and then with others.
